CoolSculpting & CoolTone Q&A

Awhile back we answered some of the most popular questions about CoolSculpting here. Today, we are further demystifying the magic of CoolSculpting with our licensed Aesthetician and CoolSculpt Experts. You’ll get a first class experience throughout your consultation and procedure experience while walking through the “fat freezing” process.

Here are a few more questions and answers to give you the info you need to move forward.

  1.     What does CoolSculpting feel like?

CoolSculpting feels like putting your hand in an ice chest and taking it out. The cold sensation lasts the first three to five minutes and then the skin starts to become slightly numb.  Although the skin feels numb, the skin is never injured during the treatment. Once the procedure is complete, a two-minute massage occurs which increases the results by 60%. Some patients note that the massage is the most uncomfortable portion of the treatment, however, it’s needed for greater results.

  1.     What happens to the fat in CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting freezes the fat cells where the applicator is applied.  Once the fat cells are frozen, they crystallize and die. The fat cells are expelled through the lymphatic system over a period of 45-120 days.  You will never know this process is occurring. It’s a slow process and the body’s natural way of evacuating the fat cells.

  1.     Where can CoolSculpting be used, and where does it work best?

CoolSculpting is FDA approved for submental (double chin), arms, bra fat in the front (near the armpits) and back, abdomen, flanks (love handles or muffin top), banana roll (back of thigh), knee area, and the inner and outer thighs. We have seen amazing results with all areas we treat. Following your recommended treatment plan and treating to completion will always get you the best result on any area.

  1.     What can I expect after CoolSculpting?

Numbness and soreness can be expected for up to a month after treatment, though not every patient experiences it.

  1.     How long are CoolSculpting sessions?

CoolSculpting sessions really depend on how many areas are being treated and the applicator used for the procedure. Applicator times run from 35 minutes per treatment to one hour and 15 minutes per treatment.

  1.     How fast are CoolSculpting results?

Results are expected to be seen within three to four months, although we are seeing results as early as 45 days (but that is not always the case). Everyone’s body responds differently, so do not expect to see results until the full 90 to 120 days post-treatment.

  1.     Which is better: CoolSculpting or liposuction/laser lipo/Kybella?

CoolSculpting is the only non-invasive fat reduction option available. CoolSculpting has very little downtime and is not a surgical procedure and is meant to treat areas that don’t require major debulking of the fat.  Liposuction is reserved for plastic surgeons and if we feel like that would be a better option, we would refer you to a board certified plastic surgeon. The great aspect of CoolSculpting is that you can leave here and continue your normal activities. As for Kybella, if the area to be treated is too small for CoolSculpting, then we would recommend Kybella.  Kybella is an injection that dissolves fat cells. Kybella tends to swell for up to one week after treatment, and will require multiple treatments for permanent results. Therefore, if we can proceed with CoolSculpting, we will because less downtime and number of treatments are required.

  1.     Will CoolSculpting fix my problem areas, like getting rid of muffin top and cellulite, tighten skin or reduce belly fat?

CoolSculpting freezes the subcutaneous fat cells and kills them; the fat cells will not return unless you reach morbid obesity. CoolSculpting treatments have some tightening abilities but it is not indicated for cellulite or skin-tightening.

  1.     What’s the difference between CoolTone and CoolSculpting? How do I know which is right for me?

CoolSculpting is a fat reduction and fat loss treatment to slim down fatty areas; whereas, CoolTone is a device that strengthens muscles.  CoolSculpting will treat the fat and CoolTone will tone and sculpt the muscles.
