A Botox Newbie? Here’s How to Get Started

After years of injecting patients with Botox and Dysport, we can tell you one thing: no two faces are alike. Similarly, there is no magic age in which injections suddenly becomes beneficial.

Each year we welcome new patients at The Look and customize a treatment plan. Each plan is individualized and based on the patient’s aesthetic goals.

Yes, Botox injections can smooth out crow’s feet and lift sagging skin. But it can also work preventatively, so you never have to decide the “right” time to start or start counting wrinkles.

Best of all, the results will look completely natural when the procedure is done right.

Botulinum toxin or Botox is produced by bacteria that live in water, soil, plants and animal intestines. It contains a product that will cause muscle weakening that can last several months. The muscle weakening can lift the skin, oftentimes,  and smooths out wrinkles.

While the fact that it is a toxin can be scary, when administered in small dosage Botox is completely safe. This is especially true when it’s compared to more invasive cosmetic procedures. A study on the safety of Botox found that fewer than one percent of patients experienced an adverse reaction to Botox.

When you’re ready to look as great as you feel, you’re ready to try Botox. However, there are a few things to consider before you track down a “home Botox party.” The first thing to remember is the treatment needs to be done by an experienced healthcare professional in a controlled environment. This is a neurotoxin that is being injected in your facial muscle. You want someone experienced.

A few things to look for when you’re choosing a provider is to:

  •   Check their credentials and previous experience
  •   Look at online clinic reviews
  •   Have a face-to-face consultation before starting any treatment

At The Look, Haley has 14 years of injectable experience, trains providers across the country and has also trained Courtney to inject similar to her own techniques.  Courtney has trained with Haley on a daily basis for months to achieve the same results Haley sees with her own clientele.

You also want to have a plan before starting any injections. You want to have a complete understanding of what Botox can do and will let you know if your goals are unrealistic.

Botox can help slow down the aging process and give you a more youthful appearance.

After your first Botox treatment don’t expect to suddenly look years younger. There is very little downtime, mainly redness for up to 20 minutes. This is normal. Some patients even experience temporary headaches, which is often relieved with Tylenol. All of these side effects typically disappear in 20 to 30 minutes after the injection.

Best of all, you will still look natural, unlike invasive procedures that often leave the individual with a “fake” or unnatural appearance.

When you’re ready to minimize wrinkles and improve the appearance of your skin, the professionals at The Look are ready to help you create your personalized Botox plan.
