Did you know your body naturally produces the best defenses against the appearance of aging to keep your skin looking vibrant? The key is to kickstart those natural defenses, and we’ve got a slightly unconventional treatment that does just that.

It’s called microneedling, and it’s a minimally invasive solution to improve the look of scars, boost collagen and elasticity. The treatment can be combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP) for enhanced results, including stimulating hair growth in the scalp area.

Microneedling is a great first step for anyone age 30 or older who wants to stay ahead of the aging process. It’s especially effective in the areas of the eyes, forehead, and brow, and it can be used as a complement to Botox if residual wrinkles persist after that treatment.

According to Elle, microneedling dates back to 1995, but it’s become increasingly popular in recent years thanks to developments in technology and lots of YouTube videos that show the process in action.

At The Look, we can work with you to put together a personalized microneedling treatment that’ll bring out your natural beauty and have you looking younger in minutes!

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling uses miniature needles to create tiny, controlled micro-injuries to the surface of your skin, which then encourages the natural production of collagen and elastin.

The most popular microneedling device, a dermaroller, has very small needles that are between 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters. It might sound painful, but most clients say there’s little to no pain involved.

Who should try microneedling?

If you’re hoping to achieve younger-looking skin with fewer wrinkles and fine lines, then this innovative treatment may be for you. Microneedling is great if you’d like to reduce the appearance of pre-existing scars and acne or trying to promote hair growth.

According to a 2008 study, 95% of patients with pitted or sunken scars who received microneedling treatments over the course of two months saw greatly reduced severity of their scars.

How does it compare to laser treatments?

One of the main things that separates microneedling from laser treatments is that microneedling has fewer side effects – such as a lower chance of scarring and hyperpigmentation – and there’s less downtime.

How can I make my treatment even more effective?

While basic microneedling can bring about amazing results, there are a couple of treatments you can add to see even greater changes in your skin. Our Licensed Aesthetician Amy Rose recommends using two to six treatments, depending on the results you’re hoping to achieve. Here are some options:

Microneedling with Growth Factors

One method to build on your microneedling treatment is to include Omni Growth Factor, a hyaluronic acid-based topical serum. It’s great for skin rejuvenation like collagen stimulation and pore reduction. This special combination can:

  • Boost your results and leave you with plump, hydrated skin for days beyond your treatment
  • Reverse sun damage and discoloration
  • Rejuvenate your skin (starting with the cells) and make it brighter and more vibrant

Microneedling with PRP

You can also take your microneedling service up another level by incorporating platelet rich plasma (PRP), a treatment that can give you lasting results for up to two years. It’s best for acne scarring or hair restoration because it has more of a regenerative effect on skin and follicle cells.

The PRP process involves drawing a blood sample, which is then put into a centrifuge that separates the red blood cells from the platelets and results in a concentrated platelet product.

During this especially unique treatment – sometimes called a “vampire facial” – Amy infuses PRP into the dermis during microneedling, which:

  • Enhances collagen stimulation, leading to softer skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles
  • Regenerates cell growth, the effects of which you’ll notice for months
  • Decreases downtime, meaning you’ll almost immediately see a big difference

Is microneedling right for me?

Whether you’d like a general rejuvenation of your skin’s appearance, want to turn back the clock on sun damage and wrinkles, or you’d like to reduce the severity of scarring, there’s a microneedling treatment for you.

If you’re nervous about microneedling, Amy will consult with you prior to the treatment and help to ease your mind. She’ll talk you through the procedure from beginning to end, and she applies numbing cream 15 to 20 minutes prior to your treatment to minimize discomfort.

It’s a great way to bring out your natural beauty without any of the hassles or high cost of surgery.
