How long do BBL sessions last?: Each session takes 30-45 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. While some patients see improvement after a single treatment, a series of 3–5 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart is often recommended for optimal results. After your initial series, maintenance treatments 2–4 times per year can help keep your skin looking its best. Mild redness and a warm, sunburn-like sensation are common after treatment and typically resolve within a few hours to a couple of days.
Is BBL safe?: Broad based light (BBL) treatment is safe. The FDA approves this pulsed light-based technology. Studies show BBL may reduce skin cancer risk by reprogramming aging skin cells to behave like younger cells.
How long is the recovery process?: BBL requires little to no downtime, so most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Mild redness and a warm, sunburn-like sensation are common and typically resolve within a few hours. If pigmented spots are treated, they may temporarily darken before naturally flaking away over the next 7–14 days. Because of the minimal downtime, BBL is often referred to as a “lunchtime treatment”.
