Say Goodbye to a Double Chin with Kybella
In the middle of high-calorie holiday feasts and seriously ruined diet plans, a double chin is likely the last thing you want to talk about or see in the mirror. And while talking about it won’t make it go away, there’s one thing that will— KYBELLA®, an FDA-approved, nonsurgical injectable that can get rid of a double chin (and other troublesome fat deposits) right in time for looking your best on New Year’s Eve.
What I love about this treatment is that its effects are permanent, meaning after you’ve completed treatment, fat will not grow back in that area. And it can be injected in places like around the bra line to eliminate that pesky “bra fat” we all hate.
I wanted to share this video of Dr. Charles Boyd, our medical director who treats patients on a monthly basis at The Look, giving Amy a Kybella treatment for “bra fat.”
Below are some questions about Kybella that I often hear. I hope this gives you all the info you need to call and schedule a consultation at The Look today.
What is Kybella?
The active ingredient in Kybella is a synthetic copy of a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and works to break down fat. After being injected into fat deposits, Kybella quickly destroys fat cells so that they are permanently unable to store fat in that particular area.
How do I know if Kybella is right for me?
If you are over 18 years old and bothered by a double chin—like 67% of respondents of a survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS)— Kybella is probably right for you. Since Kybella is a non-surgical dermatological procedure to reduce and eliminate a “double chin” or other unwanted fat deposit areas on the body, you will need to come in for a consult about whether you are a good candidate for the injections.
Some patients experience sagging skin as a result of the reduction of fat cells Kybella offers, so it is important to speak with a licensed expert who can offer advice based on your unique situation and skin condition.
What can I expect during treatment?
During your treatment, we’ll inject a small amount of Kybella in multiple places within the treatment area (for example, beneath your chin or in the fatty area around the armpit). You can expect to feel some needle pricks and discomfort from the injections, but we will apply cooling to the area to minimize any pain you feel.
Below is another video demonstration of a Kybella treatment I did at The Look during our Patient Appreciation Week:
What can I expect after treatment?
Since Kybella is a nonsurgical procedure, you should not expect any significant downtime or disruption to your daily routine following treatment. The most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. This can last for several weeks, but many of our clients find that these side effects are minimal and easily hidden with scarves or makeup.
How many treatments of Kybella will I need?
The answer to this question depends on the amount of fat you want to remove, your skin’s condition, and your age. Typically, clients need two to six treatment sessions, which will be spaced at least six weeks apart to allow for healing and reduction of swelling and tenderness. You can expect to see reduced fat in the area after the second treatment, but for optimal results, more may be needed.
